Family Support Orders Service will transition into a consolidated model based in Grand Falls beginning in 2017, Premier Brian Gallant announced.
“Your government understands how important creating jobs is to New Brunswickers and their families,” said Gallant. “We are working hard on this priority and with your support we are getting things done. Consolidating the Family Support Orders Service to Grand Falls will improve service delivery for New Brunswickers and will bring jobs to Grand Falls region.”
The consolidated unit will be temporarily located in the former Grand Falls courthouse. Twenty-five jobs will be phased into the new location in Grand Falls beginning in early 2017. The consolidation was identified to improve program performance, increase efficiency and improve court services in the province. New Brunswick is the only jurisdiction in Canada without a centralized delivery model for family support order enforcement.
“A new consolidated enforcement unit will allow us to create specialized units, improve quality control and provide a stronger service to clients of the program,” said Justice and Public Safety Minister Denis Landry. “The new model will also allow us to expand training opportunities for employees and improve the distribution of workload, which has proven to be challenging under the current model.”
Family Support Orders Service is mandated to monitor compliance with family support orders and agreements that are filed with the program; to collect and distribute family support payments; and to take enforcement action as required. The program serves about 25,000 parents and 18,700 children.
