The provincial government is asking New Brunswick’s business community how to further reduce red tape. A survey is being launched as part of Red Tape Awareness Week.
“Your government understands what matters to New Brunswickers, and we congratulate New Brunswick’s small businesses on their hard work and dedication,” said Economic Development Minister Francine Landry. “While continuing to reduce red tape, it is our job to create conditions that will allow businesses to thrive and succeed in New Brunswick. The economic growth plan sets the path that will allow your government to focus on our most urgent priority: creating conditions for economic growth and job creation.”
Service New Brunswick has created a business satisfaction survey in support of this project. The survey will allow entrepreneurs and employers to identify the government services they access, either in person, online or through another channel. Survey participants can then provide ratings and further details about their experiences to help government improve these services and support businesses.
The survey is available online until about Feb. 3.
Landry said the government has already taken a number of measures to help small businesses, including:
- Creating the Joint Office of Regulatory Affairs and Service Effectiveness, which is now growing to encompass all of Atlantic Canada.
- Passing the Regulatory Accountability and Reporting Act, in harmony with Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.
- Producing New Brunswick’s first annual report on red tape reduction.
- Harmonized minimum wage increase reviews across the Maritimes (April 2017), reducing red tape for employers.
- Establishing agreements with Nova Scotia, Quebec and Ontario to recognize training and certification of drivers of long-combination vehicles, reducing red tape for transportation companies.
- Harmonized apprenticeship programs for four trades, with six more to be harmonized in 2017, reducing red tape for trades businesspeople, construction companies, and more.
As part of Red Tape Awareness Week, the New Brunswick Jobs Board Secretariat is launching the Agile Business Services initiative. This will help the secretariat identify which services for business are working and which require improvement. The initiative was created after consultations with businesses in recent months.
Landry said that, as part of the government’s goal to create jobs, it has recognized that businesses must get the right kind of service from the government in order to become established and grow.
“We are grateful to the many organizations who have contributed to our red tape reduction efforts over the past year, including the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters, the New Brunswick Federation of Labour, the Canadian Union of Public Employees, and numerous individual businesses and other partners,” said Landry.
